About this guide
About Moving On After Transplant
An independent reading guide for people recovering from a kidney transplant, and for the family and friends around them.
On this page
Leaving hospital with a new kidney tends to bring a second set of questions. They are usually small and practical: what is normal this week, what the clinic tests are for, when it is sensible to go back to work, whether a holiday is realistic. This guide gathers those questions in one place and shows where every answer comes from.
What this site is
Moving On After Transplant is a set of plain-language guides on recovery and daily life after a kidney transplant. They begin with the first months, move through anti-rejection medicines and long-term health, and then cover the practical edges of life: exercise, work, travel and more.
Independent, and not an organisation you can join
This is an independent educational publication. It is not a charity, not a support group, not a helpline, not a clinic and not a company selling anything. It runs no forum, no peer matching, no events and no fundraising, and it is not affiliated with any hospital, transplant unit, health service, charity or government body. The address of the site may sound like a patient group. It is only an address, and we want that to be clear from the first page you read.
Who writes it
The pages are written and maintained by the editors, a small independent team. We do not claim to be clinicians, we do not claim to have had a transplant ourselves, and no page has been medically reviewed on behalf of any hospital or charity. What we do is read public sources, check what they say and set it out in plain English. Where a page states a fact, a number or a recommendation, the source is named at the foot of that page so you can read it yourself.
What it is not
It is general information, not medical advice. It cannot tell you what your test results mean, whether a symptom matters, or whether to change anything you do. Practice differs between transplant centres, and your own transplant team knows your history, so they always have the final word. If something feels urgent, contact your team or your local emergency service rather than reading on.
Read how pages are sourced and corrected in the editorial standards, or return to the clinic follow-up guide for a practical place to start.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a charity or a patient support group?
No. It is an independent publication with no membership, no forum and no helpline. For peer support, the charities and health services named in our sources offer their own services, and we link to their pages only as citations.
Can the editors answer a question about my own transplant?
No. We are not clinicians and we cannot give personal advice. Your transplant team is the right place for questions about your own care.
Does this site sell or recommend any service?
It does not sell anything and offers no service of its own. It is information only.
The short version
An independent, sourced reading guide for life after a kidney transplant. It explains what public bodies say, shows its sources and leaves personal decisions to you and your transplant team.
